The Old Hut

The Old Hut

 “Private property, Please respect”

With a sign expressing the feeling of all Gorge landholders, the old hut has seen a few incarnations.

Originally an old railway donga, the hut has been substantially rebuilt over the last 20 years.  At one point the entire back wall fell down the cliffs behind it!

The hut was used by timber getters working in the Gorge in the 1980’s, working above the Flaggie out of “The Loading Ground”.

It stands on the unique basalt cliff above the Flaggie – looking out to the Bush Apple tree.
